ABOUT ME

Katy Ong

By day, I'm a post-doctoral scientist in Cell and Cancer Biology.  My passion for biology stems from a desire to understand how molecules are organized in cells and tissues to orchestrate diverse and complex tasks.  In studying such biological phenomenon, my days are filled with the intrinsic beauty that is at the core of nature and living organisms.  I guess this is what has inspired my "side gig".  Over the past two years, I have been exploring various forms of design medium.  I've learned to sew my own clothes  (see Fig. 1 on the left).  I've also managed to translate years of experience in graph and figure production to surface and textile design.  I'm now looking to combine the two major pursuits of my life through designing prints and accessories inspired by nature.  I aim for my designs to reflect accurate science while being modernly aesthetic.  My goal is to disseminate my art as well as a little bit of peer-reviewed knowledge.  I hope that everyone, regardless of education, can appreciate my creations -- and maybe learn something from them!
